“Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size”. – Maya Angelou-
The definition of true beauty has lost its meaning, and how its viewed is far off and completely different than what it once was. Beauty was once represented by the story of her life, the fairytale in her smile, the depth of her skin color, the tone of her bodily scars, and the perseverance that lies within her eyes. I am in no way trying to be poetic, but honest. These days, beauty is the small waist with the big butt, the length and color of her hair, and the clothes that show all the time that was put into trying to get this so called hour glass figure.Women today know they are beautiful when they get a certain number of likes on Instagram or Facebook, when they are receiving messages from any and everybody on social media telling them how beautiful they are. When I was growing up, beauty was short, small, tall, big, thick, thin, curvy, short hair, long hair, or even no hair. Not to mention, social media was non existent, so who cared what anybody else thought. Beauty was based more on how you represented yourself, the things that came out of your mouth and the spirit that followed you in the room that you just walked into.Beauty was what you thought of yourself, the boldness you brought forth, and the self confidence that was exhibited in every step you took. Beauty was what you thought of yourself, something that you wanted to show the world, and something that you made known. Self esteem has way more to do with beauty, the way that you feel about yourself controls the beauty that follows you into any room. To know that you are beautiful before anyone tells you is true happiness, to be confident in the woman you are without fitting the standards that have been built by society, to stand boldly in the front of the bus called beauty regardless of what rules and restrictions have been set. To know who you are, what you represent, and what you look like is so important in this day and time. The thing that has been lost is women empowering women, women backing women up, women standing up for women. Today, we pull down the woman that is doing more than what we are, we tare down the woman that seems to have more than what we have, and we tare down the woman that has made it where we are trying to go. This is where we must come together, we must focus on the things that are most important. Lets get back to what was once important, support each other, build each other up and represent what beauty really is. Beauty has a definition and together we can feel and exhibit that again, we can uphold that again, together WE CAN SHOW THAT AGAIN. FOCUS MORE ON BUILDING EACH OTHER UP AND SUPPORTING WHATEVER IS DONE IN THE FEMALE COMMUNITY.
